Grades

What's the difference between my "Current Grade" and "Final Grade?"

A student's "current grade" does NOT count the assignments they haven't completed. Since most assignments have "soft" deadlines, students are responsible for not letting assignments pile up at the end of each quarter. The teacher will check in with students throughout the quarter to make sure they are making sufficient progress and can request that, on a student by student basis, they turn in assignments weekly.

Regarding my "Current Grade," what should be the percentage of total points of assignments completed to total points of ALL assignments?

Even though most assignments have "soft" deadlines, students should maintain at least 65% at all times (meaning they are completing at least 65% of the total assignments). This can be calculated by dividing the total points in the "current grades" section by the total points in the "final grades" section. It is likely that students will calculate a low percentage if they are not keeping up with their melodic dictation and sightsinging exercises. If a student is not maintaining at least a 65% at the time of mid-quarter, Mr. Lindey will contact his/her parents to maintain communication between school and home and provide additional support to the student.

Additionally, the current grade for ear-training should be 80% or higher at all times.

How do I access my theory and ear-training grades?

Once logged in to the Music Education section of Yo Soy, click on "Grades" in the navigation bar on the left. On the next page, click on the appropriate marking period. "A" is the first nine weeks, "B" is the second nine weeks, "C" is the third nine weeks, and "D" is the fourth nine weeks. On the next page, click on "View Your AP Music Grade." The next page will list all class assignments and your score for each assignment.

How does the grading work?

The top portion of the page with your scores is comprised of assignments within the "Theory" category, which is worth 75% of your total grade. Within that 75%, the assignments are points-based. The assignments include online theory lessons, melodic dictation, sightsinging, quizzes, tests, keyboard harmony, and music compositions.

The bottom portion of the page with your scores is comprised of online ear-training only, which is worth 25% of your total grade.

I turned in an assignment, but my grade is still a "0." What does this mean?

This most likely means that I haven't yet graded the assignment. Don't stress yourself out by constantly checking your grade. Check it during class. If a completed assignment hasn't yet been graded, give it a few days, then ask me about it.

I turned in an assignment, my grade is still a "0," but added to the name of the assignment is "redo" or "see me." What does this mean?

If it states "redo," you most likely made major errors and need to redo the assignment. If it states "see me," I want to speak with you regarding how you completed the assignment.

I didn't complete some of the online theory lessons, my grade is a "0," and added to the name of the assignment is "Late." What does this mean?

Any online theory lesson that is marked as "late" means that you didn't complete it prior to the test for that particular chapter. You may still complete the lesson(s) but will receive only up to half credit.
