Garage Band Tutorial
Launch Garage Band
-Choose New Music Project
-Save Projects with your Last Name, under Your Documents, NOT Garage Band
-Click on the eye button in the lower left corner, this will open your loop browser
-Move the hand of the mouse to the gray area above this pop-up and drag up to display more options
-Click on kits under the drums tab
-scroll down to classic rock beat 01 on the right side with the other options displayed
-click and drag it up to the gray area above
-the track should appear under the grand piano track at the top
-drag the green bar all the way to the left of the track
-place your mouse on the upper right corner of the green track and a circular arrow should appear
-drag it out to the right, all the way to bar 17, you have now looped this track 3 times
-click on ÒresetÓ in your loop choices in the lower left corner
-click on the guitars tab, then the rock/blues tab
-choose Òacoustic picking 20Ó and drag up to the gray area like you did with the drums
-move the blue track over to the 3rd bar
-hold down the option key and drag the track out to repeat two more times
(this is different than looping because the track repeats over from the beginning instead of just being dragged out for a longer duration)
-move the red bar line divider to the middle of the 3rd loop of the guitar and click on that tab of acoustic picking to highlight it
-go to the Edit menu and choose Split, the track is now split in two and you must click outside of the region and then choose the split section on the right and move it to bar 17
-click on the upper right corner of the 3rd bar and drag that loop out to bar 15, that track is now complete
-click on the ÒscissorsÓ button next to the eyeball and then the arrow next to the word Region
-an ÒAdvancedÓ tab should appear
-highlight the second loop of the acoustic guitar
-change the region pitch to -5 (negative 5) this will change the chord down the interval of a 4th (so now we have C, G, G chords in the guitar) the region pitch adjuster is in half steps, hit enter
-click on the eyeball button once again and then on the piano tab
-select classic rock piano 06 and drag it into the gray area to create the track
-move the green track to the 7th bar and hit the option key and drag the track to duplicate it
-click on the scissors button again and highlight the first loop of the piano track
-change the region pitch to -5 as well and hit
-from the track menu at the top, select new track and click create
-click on the ÒiÓ button in the lower right corner and your midi instruments will appear
-click on pianos and keyboards, and then electric piano
-click the ÒiÕ button to close the track info bar on the right
-select music typing from the window menu at the top
-hit the record button in the middle of the screen and hold the a key for 4 beats
-hit the spacebar to stop the sound and the recording
-drag your recorded sound to the end of bar 16 for a final ending pitch to the song
Congratulations, you just created your first musical work in Garage Band!
