Artists, musicians, writers often use themes and variations in their work to develop an idea, to express change, or tell a story. Repetition of a theme creates a sense of rhythm, variation creates a sense of movement, metamorphosis, growth, decay, evolution.

Visual artist may create serial images, sometimes in a single artwork, sometimes in a series of works. It may be in an animation, a book, or a comic strip. The images can be realistic, fantasy, or abstract.

 

 

You will create a serial image in a single painting, a series of paintings, an animation, a book, a strip or prints.  You may use any media including watercolor, inks, acrylic, pastel, scratchboard, digital, blockprint and monoprint. There should be at least 2 images for a series.
