Sound Edit 16

Starting up "Sound Edit 16 version 2"

  1. Find the Launcher. (if you can't find it go to apple - control panels - launcher)
  2. Click on "Sound Edit 16 version 2".
  3. Sound edit screen will appear.
  4. Click on "Modify" for its pull down menu.
  5. Sound Format screen will appear.
  6. Click on up and down arrows following "Sample Rate".
  7. Various levels of kHz will appear.
  8. Choose one with a microphone icon. (Higher levels require more memory,)
  9. Click on "OK

How to record a Sound

1) Go to "Levels" window.

  1. See two sides. The left has a microphone icon. The right has a speaker icon.
  2. Talk into the microphone on the top of the monitor.
    1. if there is no sound look at the input in the control strip.
    2. also check the speaker level in the control strip.
  3. The left side shows sound level indicated by green, yellow, and red fluctuating bars. (Right side for speaker levels will be addressed in a later section.)
  4. Sound should be adequate when occasionally peaking in yellow; red level distorts sound.
  5. Go to "Control" window.
  6. The buttons in the "Control" window are the following:

    RECORD- STOP -PAUSE -PLAY -LOOPING (Repeats Sound)

  8. When ready to record, click on the record button (red).
  9. Make sound in microphone.
  10. At this point, a highlighted waveform will appear in the "Sound Edit Screen".
  11. Click "Play button" (triangle) to hear sound effect.

  13. To adjust sound level, go to right side of "Levels" window (speaker icon), click and drag slide bar to desired level.

How to Add a Special Effect to a Sound

  1. Highlight (click and drag) the area on the waveform you are choosing for special effect.
  2. Click "Effects" at top of tool bar for its pull down menu.
  3. Select desired special effect.
  4. Go to "Control" window.
  5.  

  6. Click "Play" button to hear results.

 

How to Save

  1. Go to "File" at top of tool bar.
  2. Select "Save As"
  3. Screen will appear.
  4. Click on the "desktop" Button.
  5. Choose where to save (find the folder with your name)
  6. You might want to make a new folder inside your folder to save the sounds.
  7. Under format, choose Audio IFF
  8. Type desired title, add ".aif", then click on "Save."
