The task assigned to Community of Learners #4 was to provide descriptors of the K-12 indicators in the arts and technology. We approached our work from a student’s perspective by employing a technology unfamiliar to all the members—Soundbeam This device sends out a stream of ultrasonic pulses. Movement in the beam is detected by a sensor that transmits instructions for playing through a MIDIS-compatible keyboard.
The indicator descriptors provided below were based on our time with Soundbeam. They not only provide a definition of each indicator but, through accompanying video clips, they also illustrate the developmental process we experienced. While we worked solely with Soundbeam, this information is applicable to technology in every art form.
We hope arts educators will find this information helpful in their curriculum writing.
