The students do not need to have any knowledge of music to proceed
through the various 'passages'. The 5 passages range in difficulty from easy (passage 1)
to difficult (passage 5). Each of the 5 passages have chapters with topics that have
musical examples and a central concept presented (ear training; note reading and analysis;
performing; creating; music history and literature). The lessons on the CD address the 9
content standards for teaching music. The use of sound and color makes it
enjoyable for both the students and teachers. Feedback is immediate for
both wrong and right
answers. |
This program could be used to reinforce concepts learned in theory class and general music class. It could also be beneficial to choral students, since there is an emphasis on ear training. The students can compose their own melodies and then hear them immediately. This CD could inspire student-created projects using such programs as Hyper-Studio or PowerPoint. |

Website: Electrobop.767 Mixmaker Absolut DJ: Coldcut-The Cool Mixing of England's Coldcut http://www.shockwave.com/bin/shockwave/entry.jsp?content=coldcut Grade level: Middle School and High School This site allows the student to arrange seven electronic sound pictures on a grid that has two moving strobes. A rap-like percussion beat repeats over and over. When a strobe passes over a cell with a picture placed in it, a sound is heard. Numerous compositions are possible. It is easy to understand, fun and entertaining. It allows the student to create music. There are animations which appear when the strobe 'hits' the sound picture, thereby making it visually creative also. |
This site provides an opportunity for the students to easily create and perform music without actually writing, arranging and performing it on instruments. |
