Personal Preparation

Tibetan monks chant together before the creation of their mandala (sand painting) at Mercyhurst College in Erie, PA. The monks form the same shape, create the same pitch in their voices, and wear the same clothing. These people are making connections individually and to each other and in the process, ready the space.

Making Connections

Artists need focused concentration in dance, visual arts, theatre, and music. Artists working in these disciplines also have ways to center themselves before and during their work.

What means do people in various occupations use to prepare themselves for their work?

Making Connections Between the Arts

Students are drawing dancers. The visual artists are seeing and transferring their observations of the movements and lines to communicate the human form. This connection between dance and the visual arts helps the learners to see that energy can be captured in two-dimentional renderings.

Making Connections

What do musicians and dancers have in common? What do other arts disciplines have in common?

Communicating Meaning

This dance instructor discusses costumes with his students. Students will see the importance of how costume choices help or hinder the communication of ideas, qualities, or images desired in choreography.
