The Institutes The Pennsylvania Governor's Institutes and Academies for Educators are designed to promote lifelong learning and to provide engaging and rigorous academic professional development opportunities for Pennsylvania teachers. These full-scholarship programs will provide in-service credits and target Pre K-12 educators representative of beginning and master teachers. Additional consideration will be given to geographic representation and distribution among the varied levels of teaching assignments. Several institutes will give preference to district/school applicant teams and the Institute for Arts Educators will seek representation from each of the art forms. Individuals will be selected when teams or art form slots have not been filled.
The Arts Institute

The Pennsylvania Governor's Institute for Arts Educators

Our goal is to actively involve K-12 Pennsylvania dance, music, theatre and visual arts educators in a leadership program which will prepare them to:

  • set student achievement expectations based on state arts standards;
  • develop standards-based assessment-embedded instruction;
  • utilize interactive media such as internet and videoconferencing technology to support and showcase learning: and
  • work with others in their schools and communities in planning for and implementing standards-based arts programs.

This goal will be accomplished through:

  • a concentration on the PA arts and humanities criticism standard;
  • the use of dynamic media, such as film, video, and animation, as the text for learning;
  • rigorous intellectual dialogue;
  • a constructivist approach to learning; and
  • utilization of expert resources in assessment and critical analysis.
