Carson Spring Chorus Concert 2011

The 6th graders overall watched the conductor extremely well! I was so impressed! Their dynamic changes were very good. Also, their diction was EXCELLENT. They all held their parts very well, though at times the Alto's/Part II were pushing a little too much. In "Chariot's Comin'", I really felt the passion through their singing.

The 7th grade had great, tight harmonies. They sounded like a very full choir compared to the 6th graders, thanks to the boys. Their diction was outstanding as well. I really loved their song "Jubilation". That was a great choice on the conductor's part. At one point, Mr. Woten was "jumping" around with them to try to get them to express more emotion, and it reminded me how at our adjudication, every person that commented said that Mr. Pontiere "jumped" around with us to try to get us to show facial expressions. I thought the parallels between the conductors were unreal. However, at the concert, the kids reading the introduction to the song could use some work. The girls need to be quieter when they are not singing the melody. It was hard enough to hear the boys as is. Some of the kids stance while singing needed some work; which I found interesting because I know how much you and Mr. Woten stress "Position __". Just like our Chamber Choir, 97% of the kids had no facial expression on. Please stress that they open their mouths when they sing! Also, I felt no soul in some of their songs, and a few times the soprano's pitch was noticeably flat. However, the Alto's suspensions were highly predictable, yet when they sang them, I didn't get bored. I was impressed with how well they did.

The Chamber Choir had such a FANTASTIC blend. Their "T's" were great. However, there was not enough Soprano and too much Alto on some parts. When they sang unison, all I have to say is W.O.W.!! The speakers need to talk slower when introducing the songs. The soprano's were pitchy in a few places. The accents were great. I was THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED when they sang in tempo and in key WITHOUT a conductor AND added choreography. W.O.W. Chamber.

Chorale needs more volume from the guys (though you knew that). When the whole choir sang three part harmonies, I could not hear the guys at all. I just heard soprano and altos. The phrasing and rhythm was great! I was looking at the stage wishing our Chamber Choir was this size. During the acapella part, the harmonies were tight!! (Loved that part by the way) The diction was EXTREMELY impressive, especially during the fast parts. In "At the Beginning", the last phrase of the song had the best harmonies. I want that on my iPod. Nicely done, Chorale.

The 8th grade's first two songs sounded familiar. ;) Overall, harmonies were great. It really seems like they enjoyed the modern music. The girls song sounded so good! Their diction was great, again, especially in the fast rhythms. I was incredibly impressed with the girls song. They really watched you thoroughly. Boys were entertaining, as always. STAND. STILL. in the beginning of "Oye". It was SO distracting. Please try to enforce not talking on stage between songs. The closing 8th grade song was SO good! It was very complex, and the soprano note was great!

Congrats on a fantastic concert!
