Painting Class Will explore a variety of issues, styles and techniques in the art of painting.

Here are some of our goals:

  • We will conceive, plan and create original paintings that express an idea, feeling or point of view, individually or as a member of a creative team.
  • We will use new media and traditional media in a craftsman like way that explores the boundaries of the media.
  • We will shape the elements of line, space, color, light and texture, to express our ideas describe our perceptions and to create interest, memorability, and beauty.
  • We will view a wide array of work by student and master artists to analyze, critique and understand the work and the context in which it was made.
  • We will investigate the reasons and purposes of art making.

We will judge success in this class by how well the above goals are achieved. In order to be successful:

  • fellow artists and their work must be respected.
  • time in the studio class must be used well.
  • tools and materials must be respected.
  • outside research and preparation needs must be met.

This is an Overview of the class structure for the semester.
